Because of our client’s desire to have large spans of open, column free space, heavy timber was chosen as the structural system.  Our intent was to abstract traditional forms of timber construction.  Connections were concealed, traditional knee braces eliminated, and lateral loads were transferred to the foundation via engineered lumber and the use of internal shear blocks that double as spatial dividers.
